Watch Shirley Chisholm come to life, right before your very eyes! Experience the magic of the play's actress and writer, Ingrid Griffith, as she expertly weaves the life story of the phenomenal Shirley Anita St. Hill Chisholm-woman of many "firsts": the first African American woman to run for the office of President of the United States (yes, ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris); the first female to run for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination; the first African American woman elected to Congress, or as she preferred, the "first Black woman Congressman"; and so many more "firsts" and other major accomplishments.
Fifty-five years ago, on August 8, 1969, Shirley Chisholm was interviewed on nationally syndicated The Dick Cavett Show. During that interview Mr. Cavett said to Ms. Chisholm “Tell me, do you think there can ever be a woman president of the United States?” She, without hesitation, replied:
“Oh, yes. Yes,…
